INTRODUCTION
Hike from the top of the Andes to the Pacific Ocean on these 8 days adventure from San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina) to Puerto Varas (Chile) thru the Cochamo river valley. This seldom-traveled route features wide valleys with beautiful lakes, waterfalls, ancient forests, and enormous vertical granite walls, as we make our way through the Cochamó River Valley towards the coast.
ATTRACTIONS
• Hike a little-known route that stretches from the Andes to the Ocean
• Camp in exceptional locations with crystal clear waterfalls, a forest of ancient larches, and enormous, vertical granite walls as some of the highlights
• Enjoy a night chatting with the authentic inhabitants of these valleys and dinner around a campfire.
ITINERARY
Our adventure begins with a 110km, 2.5 hour transfer from San Carlos de Bariloche to Río Manso. From there, we can either continue by vehicle to the border with Chile, or raft down the river to our campsite at Paso Leon (the vehicle will transport our gear).
Surrounded by a wide variety of native flora and fauna, we will organize our equipment and backpack for the following days, and cook our dinner over the fire.
Distance: 110 km by road 10 km by raft
Duration: 2.5 hours by road, 2 hours by raft
After we clear immigration, we cross the border between Argentina and Chile and follow a beautiful route along the Manso River towards the South. Once we arrive at the junction of the Manso and Torrentoso Rivers, we have about 2 more hours of uphill and downhill that will lead us to the southern shore of Lake Vidal and our camp for the night.

From the southern end of Lake Vidal, we hike all the way along its western shore heading towards the Cochamó River Valley. The trail rises and falls gradually and we have a couple of streams to cross before we arrive at a small hamlet with a beautiful camping area. We will be hosted by local residents and enjoy their company as we eat our dinner around a warm fire.

We bid farewell to our host and begin our trek for the day. We hike beneath very large trees and around wetlands and fallen trunks before ascending to a viewpoint with a steep drop to a small lake. We will stop here for lunch and to enjoy our surroundings.
From there it is all downhill to El Arco - a rock formation with a waterfall below it and a nearby forest of ancient larches.
Our route winds through the forest and contains several river crossings. If there has been a lot of rain, the last of these can be quite tricky, but our Guide will advise and assist to ensure everyone makes it safely.
Our camp for the night is located in an epic position and surrounded by immense 1000m high granite walls. We will also visit a nearby set of impressive waterfalls during the afternoon.

Leaving our large backpacks behind, our goal for the day is the summit of Cerro Arco Iris (Rainbow Mountain). This is an intense day-hike with steep ascents and we will need to use fixed ropes in some parts. The reward, however, is a privileged view over the entire Cochamó River Valley and its incredible granite walls.
We will spend a second night in the same organized camp.

Our day begins with a 4 hour hike along a beautiful trail enclosed by trees and which features several wooden bridges. Once we arrive at El Morro, our hike will end and a vehicle will be waiting to drive us to the town of Cochamó. There we will have lunch with a view of Reloncaví Sound before continuing to Puerto Varas on the shore of Lago Llanquihue.
With our journey from the high Andes to the Pacific Ocean complete, we can relax in this very pleasant town that features incredible views of the picture-perfect Osorno Volcano and excellent restaurants where we can enjoy the typical foods of Chile.
